The Musandam Gas Plant (MGP) project is located on the west coast of the
Musandam Province in the Sultanate of Oman. The project is being developed by
OOCEP to process well fluids from the existing West Bukha field located close by
in Omani waters. Well fluids will be transported from the offshore platform to MGP
via a new subsea pipeline. The plant will produce sales quality gas, oil, LPG and
sulphur, and will treat effluents to minimize any environmental impact.
The engineering, procurement and construction contract for the plant was awarded in December 2010 to Hyundai Engineering Company. The design, procurement and site preparation activities have commenced, with MGP expected to commence commercial operation in the first quarter of 2014. The FEED (front end engineering and design) contract for the offshore production pipeline was recently awarded to JP Kenny.
As part of OOCEP’s ongoing commitment to social development, and in conjunction with the local community, the MGP project will implement a programme of local community development initiatives, including infrastructure development, housing, education and social projects. In addition to the reaction of many employment opportunities for locals, the project will also provide business opportunities for new and existing enterprises, and make a valuable contribution to the local and national economies.
